  • Walks & Attractions Nearby Our Holiday Motel

    • Castle Hill - a dramatic backdrop to Townsville, we're located right on the foothills of this Townsville icon. If you've got energy to spare, walk the infamous 'Goat's Track' (good shoes and a moderate/high level of fitness required). For a less challenging option, walk up via the road or drive to the top and explore some of the short walks from the summit. The panoramic views especially sunrise or sunset will not disappoint!
    • The Strand - Townsville's stunning promenade, The Strand stretches 2.2km along the waterfront. It's an easy flat walk, or you can go for a swim in the netted areas or at the Rockpool or the Waterpark (... all free!). 
    • Queens Gardens - just a short walk from the motel, Queens Gardens is Townsville's oldest Botanic Garden with a variety of beautiful displays. We think it also offers the best photo spot of Castle Hill!
    • Jezzine Barracks - at the northern end of the Strand, the Jezzine Barracks parklands includes the spectacular Kissing Point headland, a coastal boardwalk, great playground & BBQ area, and the Army Museum.
    • Cape Pallarenda - a variety of bushwalks, bird watching and quiet Beaches on scenic Cape Pallarenda. It also has off leash area for dogs on the beach.

    • Magnetic Island - a visit to Maggie is a must! You can take the passenger ferry then hire a topless car or take the bus or take your own car! See thisismagneticisland.com.au for more info. You can even sail around the island!
    • Crystal Creek & Paluma - about an hour's drive north of Townsville, Crystal Creek & Paluma Rainforest is a great spot for a walk, a BBQ, and a refreshing dip.  Visit Queensland Attractions for more info. TIP: stop in at Frosty Mango for a delicious mango smoothie!
    • Charters Towers / Ravenswood - for a look at our region's interesting gold mining past, visit these historic towns approx. 90 mins drive west of Townsville. Find more info here

    Townsville is known as the events capital of North Australia! There's always something happening, Visit whatson.townsville.qld.gov.au for an up-to-date listing of events

    • Markets - you'll find Townsville's Cotters Markets in nearby Flinders Street every Sunday morning. The Strand Night Markets also take place once per month during the dry season.
    • The annual Townsville Show takes place during the June/July school holidays.
    • Cowboys NRL - Townsville is proud to be home to the new Queensland Country Bank Stadium, right in the heart of town and only 1.8km from our hotel motel Townsville. If you're visiting during NRL season, head to a game and cheer on the North Queensland Cowboys! Find the draw on Cowboys website
    • V8 Supercars - normally at the end of winter, the Supercars arrive for the Castrol Townsville 400. The event also features quality support categories and a variety of entertainment. 
    • WNBL - the only female professional sporting team of any discipline in the northern half of Australia, Townsville is home to the JCU Townsville Fire - if you're visiting during WNBL season, make sure to head to a game!

    • Gregory Street - just a few blocks from our holiday motel and just off The Strand, Gregory Street is home to some great cafes.
    • Palmer Street - Townsville's premier dining district, including fine dining options such as Jam Corner, Bridgewater, or A Touch of Salt (just across the bridge). You'll also find 'Tiny Mountain' (Townsville's newest brewery), the Yacht Club and more casual options. 
    • Flinders Street - For great coffee, head to Coffee Dominion, The Quarters or Hoi Polloi. You'll find great cocktails at Heritage Exchange or Hooch & Fellow. Flinders Street is also home to the famous Townsville Brewery and Cowboys Leagues Club. The Balcony is a firm favourite too!

    • The Strand Waterpark - a fun (and free) waterpark located right on the beachfront, near Anzac Park.
    • Playgrounds - a huge variety of playgrounds all over Townsville, including Jezzine Barracks and Cape Pallarenda. Kids also love the garden hedge maze in nearby Queens Gardens!
    • Billabong Sanctuary - south of Townsville, showcasing Australian animals and offering some great hands-on experiences.  Big collection of Crocs too. Visit website here.  
    • Museum of Tropical Queensland is located right in central Flinders Street and offers a variety of child-friendly exhibits. The museum is due to re-open in early 2021 after major works, visit here for updates.
